But to show care and unconditional love for them, too. Then, they trust you, they hear you, you're on their side. They challenged the views of course. Not in a partisan way, but arguments about racism and immigration authority and obedience, xenophobia and must be challenged.
Values and education is also an important figure (and missing a basis of today's core curriculum). I found teaching the following topics appealing in particular:
"Acceptance: I know that everyone is different, and we all have a unique we have a combination of our pros and cons of seeking to know the pros in another country, you will be able to be seeing more of the positives in yourself you both win.!
Intelligent, critical thinking: Children do not want to look dumb. Give one piece of information (label) to thousands of individuals is hardly a sign of intelligence. Check each person individually and I know that in every case there are several aspects. Seek, learn, study, judge for yourself. I do not think dumb nor swallow the views of others.
Open-minded: Be curious. If you know everything about someone or something in advance, life becomes very boring. Life to be an adventure, seeking to find out for yourself and you may find a lot of gems where I think there is none. In fact, most of the gems hidden. Trying to get to know people to think different about you, with an open heart and mind and you may be pleasantly surprised.
Compassion and love: All humans have much more in common than differences. That alone is reason enough to love another. Try to think how you would feel if you were in another shoe? Only through love your willingness else you can really feel larger, healthy way. You will feel happy very much.
Peace: the absence of peace is the root of all the problems lies within us, not in someone from outside. You can deal with the practical problems more effectively, in a peaceful and quiet the mind. Hate does not lead to inner peace, but internal and external turmoil. Do you want to live a life of turmoil? "
These arguments have proved effective. Has touched me to hear a little boy, expressing his earlier views horrific, unexpectedly, saying bullying incident: "But, we can not know them even before we meet them!" And he saw it then that the seed has really taken root within the heart of this boy's mind, and regardless of what his family has learned. This is a potential tool for education.
Faded racist crimes in Greece by light and extremist activities seem to have been greatly reduced. However, the following combination of factors makes the situation is still very fragile: a) poverty, high unemployment rate among young people and deprivation in large numbers across indigenous people, b) ignorance and media manipulation that immigrants and refugees are taking resources and job opportunities in the country and so on, c) a network of extremists, who have the money to get the organization and look like a savior and rescuers systematically, especially to young people, d) large numbers of desperate refugees stranded in this country and yet, completely marginalized and excluded from society. It is a test how well we have absorbed the lessons of history for peace and the teachings of the spiritual heritage of love and compassion, and not just in theory but in practice. As far as we are teachers, we are concerned, we are still in a unique position to teach love, rather than hate, to the minds and hearts of our students sensitive. Plant the seed, even if it has already been injected poison in their minds. If the seed is strong, it can not, but sooner or later, and the opening and growth, and this is my hope.
